Medals or Trophies for a Track Meet?

For a meet with many events and divisions, medals keep the budget under control: you need one gold, silver and bronze (or more places) per event, and they are easy to hand out right at the finish line or the award tent. Save trophies for team scores, high-point athletes and the end-of-season banquet. Big invitationals sometimes place six or eight deep, while elementary field days often give every child a participation medal.

• Youth clubs and elementary: participation medals, most improved, best teammate and first-meet awards.
• Middle and high school: sprinter, distance runner and field event athlete of the year, relay team award, school record holder, scholar-athlete and coach's award.
• Cross country: varsity MVP, top newcomer, biggest time drop and a perfect-attendance award for the runner who never missed a practice.
• Road races and 5Ks: overall male and female winners plus age-group medals.

Season timing matters too: cross country banquets usually land in late fall, while outdoor track wraps up in late spring, so order banquet trophies once final times and records are confirmed.

What to Engrave on a Track Award

Put the event and result front and center, for example: "100m Dash - 1st Place", "4x400 Relay Champions", "Girls Varsity Cross Country MVP" or "Most Improved - 1600m". Add the athlete's name, the school or club and the meet or season. Trophy plates commonly allow up to 30 characters per line; limits vary by product, so check the product page. Engraving is free.
