Plan Medal Counts by Bracket

Count your weight classes, then multiply by the number of places you award. A tournament with 14 weight classes placing four deep needs 56 medals, plus a few spares for ties or late bracket changes. Youth tournaments that split brackets by age and weight will need more, so build your list from the final bracket sheet. Trophies or Medals?

At tournaments, medals win out because every weight class needs several places and wrestlers want something to wear on the podium. At the banquet, switch to figure trophies: they stand on a shelf, have room for a longer engraving and feel like a bigger honor for season-long achievements such as a school record for pins or a conference title. Many programs give both, a medal at each tournament and a trophy for the year's top awards.

What to Engrave on a Wrestling Trophy

Wrestling awards read best when they name the weight class and the result: "106 lbs - Champion", "Most Pins - 2025-26 Season", "Outstanding Wrestler" or "Iron Man Award". Add the wrestler's name and the team or tournament name. Trophy plates commonly allow about 30 characters per line, though it varies by product.
